The Climate Action Club is currently working on -- and has worked on -- many projects:
2009-2010 School Year:
Green Tip of the Week-
- Only a few weeks into the school year and we were already up and going on our newest project. This project- the Green Tip of the Week- is school-based. We are continuing to provide opportunities for people in our school to be aware about the environment. Every week a Green Tip is selected by our club and then announced every morning during morning announcements. At the end of the week, during Friday morning school assembly, who ever can repeat this little nugget of knowledge wins a free Damariscotta Reusable Bag.
"Big Ideas for a Small Planet" Premiere!!!
- Just over a year ago, the Climate Action Club was filmed by the Sundance Channel for the television series- "Big Ideas for a Small Planet". It was a long process of shooting and interviewing. Now the premiere is here! CONA is generously hosted the world premiere at the Skidompha Library in Damariscotta, Maine on October 16th at 7:00 PM. The club will be gave a short presentation before the showing of the episode. We were so excited to see a huge crowd there!
REUSABLE BAG CAMPAIGN:
The goal of this campaign is to reduce the use of plastic bags in our town. We are achieving this goal by distributing town-wide reusable bags. These bags were sponsored by the CAC and local businesses, organizations, and individuals. The CAC organized the purchase and distribution of these bags. We call the bags DRB's, or Damariscotta Reusable Bags. Thank you to the merchants, organizations, and individuals who donated to the campaigns (D) or served as a vendor (V): Yellowfront (D,V), CONA (D), Elder Power (D, V), Maine Cloth Diaper (D, V), Maine Coastal Program (D), The Kaymans (D), The Hardinas (D), Eleanor Kinney (D), Skidompha Library (D, V), Damariscotta Bank and Trust (D, V), Rising Tide (D, V), The First (D, V), Maine Coast Book Shop and Cafe (D, V), Bath Savings (D, V), Waltz's Pharmacy (V), Damariscotta River Grill (V), Camden National Bank (V), Full Circle Family Medicine (V), Round Top (V), Salt Bay Cafe (V).

We now have dubbed the bags the Damariscotta Reusable Bags, or DRB's.The DRB's are polypropylene bags made from 20% recycled materials. They are 100% recyclable, waterproof, durable, and roomy.
